More face design
Now I had chosen my character face to be circular, I was able to work with a couple of features like hair, eyes and nose. I want to keep the rounded beard as its friendly looking and anything to rough might add too much aggression to his personality.
More figure design
Went back a bit towards the figure design and chose to only use a circular head as I had decided that was probably the most friendly and best suited shape. I was then able to play around with the body shape, taking clothing into account (e.g trench coats).

Face and Figure design
I've started my new character design with a little bit of simple thumb nailing and sketching. My character based on Phileas Fogg is a nice, well-spoken British man. A triangular face will not work in this case as it is quite an aggressive and pointy shape.

Shape men
Here is a small layout I did where I make figures completely out of one form of shape and listing what those shapes impressions have on the audience/viewer.
Phileas Fogg re-development
No matter how much I tried, it seems my Phileas Foggs were not giving me the satisfaction of a good character design, they contained all kinds of faults. I even went on an all out steampunk style! But still, it didn't feel right. Our new lecturer says we need more development before drawing our final piece and he is right! He has said to look into shapes and see how they effect a characters appearance and just do thumbnails of quick sketches. It all makes sense!
Scenery Retry!
I had another go at making the David Copperfield inspired scenery, this time using a thin brush and adding more less complicated detail (I could worry about the texture later).

Scenery design
Taking a passage out of 'David Copperfield' we had to design our own adaptation the interior of the ship David lives in. Here are a few initial sketches.

Character colouring
The character required colouring. The shading did most of the work to give a 3D effect. Also certain effects like the shadow and the monocle glimmer needed to be added.
Character shading
Our character required some tonal shading. We were taught how to use shades of grey to shade and highlight the character line drawing.
Philleas Fogg
We had to design the line drawing for a character based on 'around the world in 80 days', most of us went for a Philleas Fogg adventurer. I went on a bit of a wild tangent with his small, reptilian accomplice.
First look into Photoshop
Our guest lecturer's main purpose was to show us how to use Photoshop effectively for scenery and character design and story boarding. We started by copying a photo of the internet just so we got a feel for drawing with a graphics tablet. I drew Ezio from Assassin's creed
